A Natural Beauty in
Prairie Village

Patrick met the homeowner at a professional networking group back in 2018. After getting to know each other and their respective business- they decided to work together on creating the outdoor oasis of their dreams!! With an uphill backyard, we had to get creative with making sure that the landscaping didn't drain into the pool and spa. The design team worked with this family to create landscaping that fit into their lifestyle, including a fire pit and terraced landscaping with multiple beds.
The gunite Diamond Brite plaster pool is twenty-two feet by thirty feet and is five feet deep. It has an eight-foot by an eight-foot built-in hot tub, with custom tile up to the water line that matches the tile accents in the pool. The spa is versatile in that it spills over into the pool, making it a water feature and providing the tranquil spa feel that running water creates. The pool has white loungers on the sun deck to help keep you cool if you are not ready to jump in. The umbrellas are portable and can be removed in the wintertime when you close the pool for the season. How nice to be able to have some shade in the water and be able to relax outdoors without getting sunburned!
We installed an FX Luminaire system to highlight the entire outdoor oasis that is controllable from any smart device, so you are in complete control of your atmosphere and ambiance. There are over forty lights used in the landscaping, as well as the pool. The pool & spa heater, as well as the spillover, are controlled with just one app on your phone. The possibilities are endless, and can all be controlled with the touch of a hand.
To help control drainage issues, we installed a system that included connecting all of the downspouts, drainage of the pool deck, and the terrace to be discharged into a landscaping bed near the road. There are several small retaining walls to help with erosion and to help frame the yard. The walls are constructed with a natural stone veneer and cap. There is a seamless transition up the terrace with the walls, steps, firepit, and sitting ledges all constructed with the same natural stone.
Make Outdoor Living Part Of Everyday Life
After the pool construction was finished, it was time to work on their green space. We graded and laid fescue sod, a low-maintenance grass with optimal growth in our midwest climate. The burm area was meant to help shape the landscape to the end of their property line and create privacy. It has thirteen green arborvitae trees, cobblestone creek beds for drainage, boulders for dimension, and multiple perennials for color.

At the back of the property is a wood privacy fence constructed out of treated lumber and cedar with two pedestrian gates. The burn has a natural stone edging, helping to carry the design throughout the entire oasis.

The final steps of a By The Blade project include making any repairs needed to the irrigation system and adding additional zones to the newer areas. We want to ensure that the customer can enjoy all of our hard work for years to come.
